Mental Health Impact focuses on advocacy and raising awareness of SMI and the inadequate mental healthcare system. For years, the general consensus among mental health advocates has been that the mental health care system is “broken.” This is because the mental health system for people with SMI operates largely in response to crises and emergencies—moments of high distress—and leaves people with SMI on their own when it comes to living their daily lives when they are not in the emergency room or the psychiatric ward, but still in need of help.
Our efforts include conducting thorough research and collecting data from individuals with lived experiences in psychiatric hospitals. By analyzing this information, we create detailed reports that pinpoint specific areas needing improvement, such as staff training, facility conditions, and patient treatment protocols. These reports are then used to inform policymakers, healthcare providers, and the general public about the urgent need for better psychiatric care facilities.
We believe that through persistent advocacy and community involvement, we can drive meaningful change in the mental healthcare system. Our goal is to see psychiatric hospitals that not only treat symptoms but also offer holistic support to help individuals with SMI lead fulfilling lives. Join us in our mission to improve psychiatric care by participating in our surveys, supporting our advocacy efforts, and staying informed through our blog. Together, we can make a difference.
